The Tamil saint-poet Thiru Valluvar, who is popularly believed
to have lived in the first century BCE, created a body of work
that is still sung. His famed Thirukkural, enshrined in
1330 couplets in 133 chapters of ten couplets each, takes the
form of pearls of aphoristic wisdom on how to live one's life
in a righteous fashion. The concluding verse contains lines from
the Tamil poet Kaniyan Poonkundran's "Purananuru" (poem 192).
