Track 5

The long road to Thailand

A song of optimism brought about by the ceasefire declared in December 2001, the beginning of peace talks and the potential of turning lives lived in fear into 'normal lives' freed of the fear of war. A song of thanks for the peace talks that the Thai government hosted and to Norway's peace-makers. Let's put words in the mouths of Thiru Valluvar and Avvayar: it is better to live in Peace than the dreaded alternatives.

Thailanthile amaithi pechu aanathu
Thai naatile inpam peruhi ponathu Thai
Tamil Thalaivarkal Sinhala Amaicharkal
Thuya Ullathudan manam niraintha pechu
Manathil ninmathy achchu.

Peace talks began in Thailand
There is joy in the Motherland
Tamil leaders and Sinhalese ministers together
Engaged in open discussions with pure hearts
M y heart is full of relief.

Norway naatin nadunilamaiyudan
Thailantharasin virunthompaludan
Ayara uzhythanar amithy vendiye
Evenamayinum ezhathu makkal
Otrumaiyudane ozhimayamaaga
Vazhlga vazhalgave vazhlga.

Impartial Norwegian facilitation and
the Thai government's hospitality
they seek Peace
Everybody must live in Peace and harmony
Live, and long live Peace.
